IBNU'N-NĀZIM’S COLLABORATION WITH POETRY: THE AL- MECRÛRĀT EXAMPLE

Poetry, as one of the transmitted proofs, holds an important place in establishing the rules of the Arabic language. Linguists have frequently included poems in their works. It is possible to divide the main topics of grammar into four main sections: al-marfû‘āt, al-mansûbāt, al-mecrûrāt and et-tewâbu‘. Examining these four main sections is crucial when presenting the author’s views on poetry. Considering the limitations of this article, presenting each section in a separate study is unavoidable. This study will focus on the poems cited by Ibnu’n-Nāzım, who lived between 640/1242 and 686/1287, authored works on grammar and was one of the most important commentators of the Elfiyye school, regarding the genitive case. In his works on grammar, the author used 53 poems by 36 poets as evidence concerning the genitive case. It has been determined from biographical dictionaries that 8 of the mentioned poets belong to the pre-Islamic period, 8 to the Muhadramun (the early Islamic period), and 20 to the Islamic period. Additionally, 20 poems whose authors are unknown have been used as evidence. The author expressed the main themes of the al-mecrûrāt (prepositions) as prepositions and possessive constructions. This research adheres to the aforementioned order, provides five examples for each section, avoids unnecessary details, attempts to accurately convey the meanings of the poems, provides information about their meters, cites the sources used at the end of the research, offers a general evaluation of the topic, and presents the names of all the poets and their respective periods in a table in the appendices. This research aims to compile the poems that Ibnu’n-Nāzım, used in the study of mecrûrât, to determine the purpose for which he used them, and to explain them concisely.
