Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine how the alexithymia levels (in the context of difficulty in defining emotions, difficulty in verbalizing emotions and extroverted thinking sub-dimensions) of shift employees who are exposed to intense work stress and difficult working conditions in the aviation industry. Within the scope of the research, a field research was conducted with 389 shift employees working in the operation units of ground handling companies operating at airports in Turkey. Toronto Alexithymia Scale and a questionnaire on demographic factors was surveyed to measure the emotional blindness level of the participants. The relationship between the demographic variables of the employees and their emotional blindness (alexithymia) levels (difficulty in defining emotions, difficulty in verbalizing emotions and extraverted thinking sub-dimensions) was analyzed with Independent T test and ANOVA tests. As a result of the evaluations made; It is observed that the emotional blindness (alexithymia) levels of shift employees working in the operational units of ground services are high and differ depending on their demographic variables.
