THE IMPACT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS ON STUDENTS’ SOCIALIZATION

This study examined the effects of physical education and sports on individuals’ socialization. The research was conducted using a systematic review method, and a comprehensive perspective on the subject was developed through an analysis of the relevant literature. The literature indicates that physical education and sports support not only physical development but also individuals’ social, emotional, and cognitive development. Sports strengthen social cohesion by enhancing individuals’ social skills such as empathy, communication, leadership, cooperation, and responsibility. It has been determined that school-based physical education activities increase students’ levels of self-confidence, solidarity, and social awareness, while team sports contribute to the internalization of values such as sharing, tolerance, and respect. In addition, the inclusive nature of sports has been found to facilitate the establishment of egalitarian relationships among different socio-economic groups and to promote social integration. When evaluated within the framework of social learning theory, sports are emphasized as a medium that positively shapes behaviors learned through observation and imitation, particularly supporting the development of ethical values through the principle of fair play. In conclusion, physical education and sports constitute a powerful means of socialization that extends beyond enhancing individuals’ physical capacities by contributing to social integration, tolerance, respect, and the development of a culture of communication. From this perspective, sports can be regarded as a universal educational tool that supports both individual development and social solidarity.
