Abstract

This study examines the interaction between digital printing technologies (giclée, UV, latex, and pigment-based systems) and traditional painting practices within contemporary art production, addressing this relationship through theoretical, technical, and aesthetic dimensions. The aim of the research is to analyze in detail the processes through which digital outputs are integrated into classical art surfaces such as canvas, paper, wood, and metal, and to reveal how artists transform digital prints through interventions such as painting, layering, scraping, and manual retouching. The study finds that digital production processes expand contemporary artists’ expressive possibilities by offering high color accuracy, material diversity, and production efficiency, while also introducing certain limitations such as the mechanization of surface texture, a sense of repetition, and technological dependency. The examined examples demonstrate that digital and traditional techniques function not as opposing approaches but as complementary ones, thereby fostering the emergence of hybrid aesthetic forms and new modes of production in contemporary art practice. Consequently, the study argues that digital printing technologies have become a decisive element in painting, shaping not only technical processes but also the aesthetic, conceptual, and productive transformations within the field.
