THE EFFECTS OF PATRIOT TRADITIONS ON PATRIOT DANCE PERFORMANCES

Abstract

This study examines the connections between the traditions of the Patriots living in Turkish Thrace and the traditional dances of the Patriots. There are 5 provinces in the region called Turkish Thrace. These provinces are Istanbul (partially), Çanakkale (partially), Tekirdağ, Edirne and Kırklareli. Within the scope of the study, the regions where the Patriot population living in the determined region is dense were determined and the findings obtained through interviews with the necessary institutions and individuals were presented. This study provides general information about the Patriot community and also includes the general characteristics of the Patriot entertainment culture and the Patriot dances. The effects of the Patriot traditions on the dances were mentioned in the study. These traditions are “Kasap”, “Tu Pişkeş”, “Şarba Yakma” and “Testi Kırma” traditions. In line with this study, the current status of these traditions was also mentioned. It was conveyed how the traditions have changed and how they are performed today. In addition, musical note samples of the dances played are also included in the study. In the last part, the reasons and consequences of these changes and the tradition not being performed today, the dances and traditions are discussed one by one and are presented in articled form.
