PARENTS’OPINIONS ABOUT THEIR CHILDREN’S CAREER EXPECTATIONS

Abstract

This research, titled Parents’ Views on Their Children’s Career Plans, was conducted to understand parents’ expectations regarding their children’s future professional lives. Using situation analysis, a qualitative research method, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the parents of primary school students. When the data obtained was evaluated with content analysis, four main themes emerged: parents’ expectations from their children, parents’ roles in this process, differences between parent and child expectations, and how these differences can be resolved. Most parents want their children to live a happy, successful and quality life. They play an important role in guiding, supporting and motivating them in these limited career paths. However, it may vary between individuals and their career options. It is emphasized that open and effective communication within the family, taking into account the child’s interest and consideration, is important in reducing these differences. In conclusion, this research shows that companies’ careers are of great importance and play an active role in this process. The information obtained constitutes an important resource organization for educators, guidance counselors and family members to present students more effectively in their careers.
