The aim of the study is to determine the role of the family in special education from the perspective of special education and family phenomena. Based on this purpose, firstly, what special education is is discussed. Subsequently, legal regulations regarding special education were mentioned. In the last part, the role of the family in special education is mentioned. Special education refers to educational programs designed appropriately in line with the special needs of individuals. Learning disabilities, intellectual disability, sensory impairment, autism, attention deficit, etc. It is specially prepared for people with conditions. In this context, it is aimed to ensure that people with special needs are successful in education and integrated into society. It is possible to say that many legal regulations have been made regarding special education. Institutions have been established and laws have been enacted. Family is the smallest building block of society. In general, it is a social institution in which individuals live together and spend most of their lives in which they were born and raised. The importance of the family is of vital importance in the presence of children with special needs. In the presence of children in need of special education, the concept of family has always come to the fore. The family is the basic building block of the child's development and plays an active role in special education. At the same time, families are the ones who know the development of children best. The role of families in the education of children with special needs is an important factor in the child's development. Families must do what is necessary to provide for their children's special education and cooperate with educators. For this reason, at the end of the study, the role of the family in special education was examined. The study used content analysis technique, one of the qualitative research methods. As a result, it has been determined that the family plays a key role in the development of children and that the role of the family is extremely important in special education. In addition, it has been observed that the family plays a protective and educational role in integrating their children with special education into society.
