Abstract

Unfortunately, our world is facing a climate crisis because of the greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere due to certain reasons such as increased fossil fuel consumption, deforestation, increased cattle breeding, population growth, and increased cement production triggered by industrialization. Sustainable development with environmental concerns is of interest to academics and practitioners to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) within the scope of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). To achieve sustainable development, environmental issues must be examined comprehensively by world leaders because one of the main causes of ecological disruption is the release of CO2 gases into the environment by industries. Various measures are implemented to reduce carbon emissions among which investment in renewable energy sources has been gaining more and more importance in recent years. Despite its positive aspects, renewable energy is not at the desired level in total energy. There is alternative financing that can be used for funding renewable energy resources. Among these financing methods, especially green bonds have an important place as debt securities whose proceeds are used to support climate-related or environmental projects. In the present study, the purpose is to present conceptual information on green bonds.
