NURSING CARE PLAN GIVEN TO A CHILD WITH CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE WITH A FAMILY-CENTERED CARE PHILOSOPHY

Abstract

Atrioventricular septal defect is a defect at the junction of the atria and ventricles. It constitutes 4-5% of congenital heart defects. There is usually a small atrial defect and a large ventricular defect. In addition, there may be distortion of the mitral and tricuspid valves. Illness and hospitalization in children is one of the events that significantly affect their life. Situations where a surgical intervention is required for the recovery of the disease cause psychological and social problems as well as feelings of fear, anxiety and hopelessness in the patient and his family. Pediatric nurses play an important role in preventing diseases and promoting health. At the same time, in the field of work, he/she enters many roles such as therapeutic, supportive, counseling, advocacy, caregiver, educator. The purpose of the nursing care of the child with congenital heart disease; caring for a careful physical assessment of the child, improving cardiac and respiratory functions, conserving and supporting energy, and helping parents cope with this crisis until the child's condition improves. In the nursing care of children with congenital heart disease, the recovery of children will be accelerated with the application of family-centered care. In this way, the weak aspects of the family will develop, and the independence and self-efficacy of the child and family will increase.
