Although tradition is the values that are transferred from generation to generation from the past to the present in a society, tradition means keeping these values alive. Popular culture, on the other hand, covers the values that do not have a certain root, which are admired, attracted and can be changed among places and over time preferred by the majority. Today, music is influenced by this popular culture concept. The influence of popular culture spreads faster, affecting different areas with the development of technology. Music is also affected by this popular culture concept in our present day. As a result of this effect, it is seen that different musical performances and different styles have emerged from the past to our present time. Although folk music is generally considered within the concept of traditional music, different musical performances such as pop and arabesque music are also considered styles developed under the influence of popular culture. The purpose of the present study was to determine the differences that emerged during the performance of the piece “I am walking on the thorns” by pop, arabesque and folk music artists. Literature review and semi-structured personal interview method were used in the study. The interview with Aşık Hasan Kaplani was made use of for the transcription of the work
