The 20th century was shaped by the social contradictions created by wars and rapid technological advances; art became a significant tool for expressing individual and social wounds during this period. Abstract art, which emerged in the West in the 1910s, was adopted in Turkey from the 1950s onward, and Turkish artists transformed it into a unique form of expression by blending it with traditional cultural values. This research aims to examine the opinions of students in the Painting Departments of Fine Arts Faculties regarding abstract art in the Painting Main Art Studio classes and the factors influencing these opinions. A survey was administered to 297 students in the painting departments of Selçuk, Mustafa Kemal, Marmara, Dokuz Eylül, Kastamonu, Van Yüzüncü Yıl, and Hacettepe Universities to
examine the effects of abstract art on students' opinions based on variables such as gender, family education and economic status, type of high school graduated from, and attended university. Descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), independent samples t-test, and correlation analysis were used in the analysis. According to the findings of the study, differences in students' gender, the type of high school they graduated from, their age, their families' economic status, and their parents' educational backgrounds did not have a significant impact on students' views of abstract art. However, significant differences were found between universities in their views of abstract art based on the university they attended. It is believed that the research findings could contribute to the development of recommendations for the quality of art education by determining students' perspectives on abstract art.
