Abstract

The aim of the research is to reveal the opinions of 5-6-7 or 8th grade students and teachers about the difficulties encountered in teaching history subjects in Social Studies Course and to propose solutions to them, and to examine the differences between these views. The research was designed in the type of qualitative research and purposive sampling method was used. For this, a semi-structured questionnaire consisting of 8 questions was used.

The sample of the study consists of 25 randomly selected students and 10 teachers from Sur and Yenişehir districts of Diyarbakır province.

The research was designed in the type of qualitative research and purposive sampling method was used. According to the research findings, students and teachers stated the difficulties they encountered in the teaching of history subjects in the Social Studies course and expressed their opinions on the solution proposals. When the teachers' opinions are examined; It is stated that the density of the curriculum should be reduced, student-oriented activities should be included in order to make the course boring, and new methods and techniques should be used. Teachers should consider students' interest in the lesson, their level of perception and comprehension skills. Teachers should prepare a lesson plan in this direction and suggestions can be made to use different methods and techniques.
