Abstract

In the study, it was aimed to determine the perceptions of school administrators and teachers regarding school safety. For this purpose, scanning model was chosen as the working method. Managers and teachers working at various educational levels participated in the study. 261 teachers and 103 school administrators participating in the study were determined from the universe by simple random sampling. In the study, "Personal Information Form" was used to determine the personal information of school administrators and teachers in the sample group, and "School Safety Scale" was used as data collection tool to determine their perceptions of school safety. The study data collected with the specified data collection tools were analyzed using parametric tests. In the analysis process, mean and standard deviation calculations were made according to the sub-problems of the study. In addition, unrelated samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance were performed during the analysis process. In the study, it was found that school administrators and teachers had conflicts at school that could lead to physical fights, that some students deliberately damaged the things at school, that security measures were not taken against possible health problems at school, that the disciplinary mechanism in the school was not operated in a healthy way, and that there was a situation that would threaten safety at school. It has been determined that there is no security action plan, emergency exit doors are not always ready for use in case of emergency, and everyone's opinion is not asked in the decisions taken regarding school security. In addition, it was concluded in the study that normal or dual education at the school, the number of students at the school, the primary school, secondary school, and high school being studied cause a significant difference in the school safety perception levels of school administrators and teachers.
