Abstract

In the context of the consumption object, the shaping of the material in sculpture and its attainment of a new form is valuable in terms of approaching the phenomenon of awareness with artistic concerns. As a member of a society that prefers to consume rather than produce, the approaches of artists who use the consumption object as a material in the art of sculpture and who have great touches on society within the scope of transforming this material into form in sculpture are also intriguing in this context.

Starting from the question of how the consumption object evolves into a work in the art of sculpture, this study is a compilation study as a result of researching visual and written sources. In addition, it is planned to be a resource, especially in the form of a compilation, with examples of artists.

Within the scope of the subject, it has been concluded that traditional forming techniques are generally formed by the limitations of the technical tools and materials needed, and thus the material can only speak within the limitations of the forming techniques. In this case, it is thought that the freedom to form is limited and therefore not used much in shaping the consumption object, which is outside of the traditional. It has been observed that the limitations of modern forming techniques are material-oriented. In a wider range; Along with the technological benefit, it has been encountered that the shaping required of the material can be easily reached. Thus, it was understood that a progressive dialogue developed between the diversity of the consumption object and the diversity of forming techniques. As a result of the researches, it has been realized that while the consumption object is formed in the art of sculpture with aesthetic concern, it contains a blended image of traditional shaping methods, modern period and today’s shaping techniques.

}, number={27}, journal={Socrates Journal of Interdisciplinary Social Studies}, author={Armağan Benek, Sibel}, year={2023}, month={Mar.}, pages={51–57} }
